Before the turkey is carved and families gather around the Thanksgiving table, communities across Massachusetts come together for one of New England's most beloved holiday traditions: high school football.
From generations-old rivalries to packed bleachers filled with students, alumni, friends, and neighbors, Thanksgiving football is about much more than the final score. It's a celebration of hometown pride, friendly competition, and the traditions that connect our communities.
Whether you're cheering for your alma mater, supporting your local high school, or looking for a fun way to kick off the holiday, here's a guide to Thanksgiving week football across MetroWest, Greater Boston, Central Massachusetts, the South Shore, and Cape Cod.

More Than Just a Football Game
Thanksgiving football has deep roots in Massachusetts. The Needham-Wellesley rivalry dates back to 1882, while Boston Latin and Boston English have a rivalry dating to 1887. Generations of players and fans have helped keep these traditions alive.
For many families, heading to a high school football game is as much a part of Thanksgiving as the meal itself. It's a chance to reconnect with neighbors, celebrate school spirit, and share memories across generations.
Whether you're in the stands, hosting family, or enjoying a quiet holiday at home, wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with community, connection, and traditions worth celebrating.
